When it comes to skating and snowboarding the Atlantic Coast is often overlooked. However, the folks at Ballistic serve the local scene of shredders with a mighty slice of down-home, East Coast hospitality. The service is so top notch the shop took home SIA’s Canadian SnowSports Retailer of the Year award for Atlantic Canada in both ’06 and ’07. This past spring Ballistic celebrated its silver anniversary, so we decided to throw props at skate manager Kurk Brown.
You guys gave away a cool grand to a lucky customer – how did the idea come about? For starters, being open for 15 years is huge for a skateshop in Newfoundland, and the only way to show thanks is to give back to our customers. We have over 300 styles of shoes so we decided that if you bought a pair of shoes you received a ballot for a chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree.
What’s in store for the next decade? When Ballistic started it was the only store of its kind in Newfoundland. Now there are many competitors and we have to stay ahead of the curve to keep our place in the market. Exclusive buying and progressive products will be our competitive advantage in the future.
