Billabong announced that they are replacing long time CEO Derek O’Neil. O’Neil has been with the brand for over 20 years and has served as CEO since 2003. During O’Neil’s time as CEO Billabong saw rapid growth and brand acquisition. The company acquired RVCA, Nixon, Plan B Skateboards, Sector 9, Canadian retail giant West 49 and many others. They also made a huge online push acquiring Swell.com in the US and Surfstictch.com in Australia.
Derek O’Neil was a strong believer in Billabong’s retail expansion. Ironically a retail expert has replaced him. Laura Inman, former head of Target in Australia will be starting may 14th. Inman was first brought on a few months back as a consultant to review Billabong’s retail operations.
Billabong also announced that North America President Paul Naude, who is close to Derek, will remain on the board and will take on oversight of South America. His title will now be President of Americas with responsibility for South America, the U.S. and Canada
