Marchon Eyewear, one of the largest eyewear companies in the world, has purchased Dragon. Marchon owns the license to many brands including Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld and Valentino. Dragon will be Marchon’s first step into the action sports market.
Dragon founder and CEO, Will Howard has signed a multi-year agreement to remain CEO. The Dragon management team will remain intact.
This is not the first time Dragon has been owned by a larger eyewear company. Will started Dragon nearly 20 years ago in his garage, and Oakley eventually bought a controlling interest in the brand. When Luxottica bought Oakley, Dragon, with the help of private equity investors, spun off on its own.
Dragon does not disclose it’s yearly earnings but in 2011 the revenue’s where in the 20-million range and grew 23% globally.
